1: A study by Brandfirm

No ads on WhatsApp this year as 6 out of 10 users would consider switching

Advertisements feel like an invasion of privacy for three out of four users

Facebook was planning to enable advertisements on WhatsApp this year, but has put this plan on ice. A wise move, as it turns out from a study by online marketing agency Brandfirm. 58 percent of Dutch people would consider switching to another service if ads were to appear in the app. Three out of four users indicate that advertisements on WhatsApp feel like an invasion of their privacy. "I understand that Facebook has put the plans for advertisements on ice, as the Wall Street Journal also reports," says Christiaan Pol, director at Brandfirm.

2: A vision from Building Heroes

Construction sector opens up to non-construction professionals

Building Heroes recognizes a promising development

More and more companies in the construction industry are open to professionals who are not educated or experienced in the construction sector. That's what Willem Molengraaf, one of the founders of Building Heroes, notes. Molengraaf encourages this development, because it would lead to a diversity of perspectives and thereby to smarter decisions.

3: A study, timely hook, and tips from The Inner Circle

January 5 is 'Dating Sunday': 29 percent more singles register on dating apps

The Inner Circle shares five tips for more dating success

The first Sunday of January is also known as 'Dating Sunday'. This is the busiest day on dating apps, and on The Inner Circle, the Dutch dating app that helps people meet in real life. The peak on January 5 is caused by singles wanting to keep their New Year's resolutions and preferring not to be single on Valentine's Day. The Inner Circle therefore shares five tips to have more dating success.

4: Launch of a new proposition by Brenger through a study

Brenger wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 67,000,000 kg with the launch of Brenger for Business

Start-up gives business market insight into the service level of couriers

The Amsterdam-based transport startup Brenger is launching Brenger for Business. With this, the company aims to have prevented more than 67 million kg of C02 emissions by 2022. The logistics startup connects businesses and consumers to untapped space in a courier's van. This way, every courier bus is as full as possible. With Brenger for Business, the startup now also focuses on the corporate market and makes service-oriented couriers visible to businesses.

5: International success of Pockies

Dutch underwear with pockets conquers the United States

The company grows by 40% each month in the US

Where do you keep your phone when you're relaxing on the couch? This question led to the idea for Pockies: the comfort of nice boxers, with the functionality of pockets. Ideal for keeping your phone, keys, or passport within reach. What started as a funny idea by three students turned into a company they can now live from. Remarkably, it seems to be a popular gift in the United States: sales increase by 40% each month.

6: Gain launches a campaign as a timely hook, with a study and call to action

GAIN launches ADE campaign 'What?! No beeping, use your plugs' calling for noise warnings at festivals and concerts

Podcasts with famous DJs let listeners experience hearing damage and deafness

Starting Wednesday, October 16, music lovers will again enjoy the Amsterdam Dance Event. GAIN, the trade association for hearing aid manufacturers, calls on festivals and clubs to always play a warning before each concert from now on. This warning ('What?!, No beeping, use your plugs') is recorded by Justin Verkijk. A podcast allowing listeners to experience what it's like to be hard of hearing draws attention to this action. Research conducted by GAIN shows 93 percent of Dutch people think festivals and nightlife venues should do more to prevent hearing damage. 89 percent believe that the maximum sound level for festivals and nightlife venues should be legally fixed. Such legislation is still in the future. Most people underestimate the long-term effects of too high noise levels, so GAIN launches a warning today to make music lovers aware of this.

7: €5 million investment for Vakanties.nl

Sunweb founder Joost Romeijn invests 5 million in Vakanties.nl

Rotterdam startup uses machine learning for offer personalization

Vakanties.nl announces a €5 million investment from Joost Romeijn. The Rotterdam startup bundles offers for overnight stays, rental cars, and flights. Offers are personalized for each visitor using machine learning. The investment will be used to develop a non-linear chatbot and to serve 50,000 travelers next year.

Judith Eyck, co-founder and director of vakanties.nl: "Joost Romeijn is not only involved as an entrepreneurial visionary who helps me with inspiration and coaching, but he also puts more skin in the game. This allows us to grow even faster. Last year we already grew from one to ten million euros in turnover. We hope to give this big growth a nice sequel." Eyck is one of nine nominees for the LOEY Talent-award.

8: Launch of Pakkie

500,000 Dutch people have experienced fraud through an online marketplace

Startup Pakkie wants to solve that problem

The payment request and delivery app combines payment via an escrow account of Pay.nl with sending from 5,500 participating parcel points from PostNL, DHL, and DPD. Following a successful pilot, Pakkie is available nationwide starting today.

"Everyone knows the feeling. As soon as you transfer money to a seller on an online marketplace, you get an uneasy feeling. Will the seller honor our agreement? And if I send something, will I really get paid? We solve that problem by combining both the payment and shipment into one app. We are a fan of second-hand trade because it saves the environment. Online second-hand trade is growing fast, also more and more outside of Marktplaats. Last year, 2.3 million Dutch people sold goods via Facebook. To serve everyone, we came up with this app," says Boris Schellekens, one of the creators of Pakkie.

9: Announcing an award

Amsterdam startup You-Stand is nominated for the MKB Export Award

You-Stand commits to public health with affordable standing desks

The Amsterdam startup You-Stand has been nominated for the MKB Export Award, a prize established by MKB-Nederland, RVO, and TNT. The company developed and sells standing desks at an affordable price, so that standing work is possible for even more people. With this, You-Stand hopes to combat the risks of sedentary work, which is increasingly called 'the new smoking'.

Frank in het Veld, the inventor of You-Stand, was formerly a program maker for public broadcasting. When his wife suffered from a herniated disc, he was surprised that there were no affordable solutions for standing work. "I then sat down with a friend who is a furniture designer. After a lot of sawing and tinkering, we came up with the You-Stand, which is affordable and meets ergonomic standards. This not only solved my wife's problem but immediately had a clear goal: to let more people work while standing."
