Last week, Woolsocks - The money app announced via Presscloud that together with Frank Energie, they are the new main sponsors of Vitesse Arnhem for the next three seasons. We can say: the news has stirred things up! In this blog, we would like to highlight the involved parties, the news, the guidance from us, and importantly: the results.
The Company
This case actually involves three companies: Woolsocks - The money app, Vitesse Arnhem, and Frank Energie. To keep the story manageable, we will focus only on the first two companies:
Woolsocks - The money app: This fintech (from the founders of online broker DeGiro) is an all-in-one financial savings app for the European market, designed to give people more control over their finances. With smart features for saving daily on groceries, purchases from popular webshops and stores, fixed costs, and more, Woolsocks helps users get the most out of their money. They were previously in the news when they acquired the loyalty app OK, with publications in Emerce, FONK Magazine, Twinkle, and Business Insider.
Vitesse Arnhem: Who doesn’t know them? Vitesse is the biggest football club in Arnhem and is known for its black and yellow kits, the GelreDome, Theo Bos, John van den Brom, and numerous notable footballers. Unfortunately, in recent years, they have been mainly in the news due to major financial problems, which seemed to pile up rather than decrease. When you thought it couldn’t get worse for Vitesse, the KNVB’s Licensing Commission announced a proposed decision on May 23 to revoke Vitesse’s professional license. The Arnhem football club could certainly use some good news.
The News
In came Woolsocks - The money app. The financial savings app announced that together with energy supplier Frank Energie, they will be the new main sponsors of Vitesse. Not a one-time act: the parties signed an agreement for no less than the next three seasons. Fantastic news, of course, with a sign of confidence in Vitesse as an important milestone in laying the foundation for a healthy future for the club.
One of the important principles and goals of this collaboration is to create added value for supporters and everyone who cares about the club. This should be reflected in various attractive offers, unique content, and diverse activations towards the fanbase. Everyone wins? It just might happen.
The Guidance from Presscloud
A news announcement of this size requires coordination with multiple parties. With a big club like Vitesse, official approval from a press officer is needed on the press release, and there are always last-minute points that need to be addressed. And we just look at the press release that had been ready in our environment for a while.
Ultimately, the news could only be communicated on Monday, June 9. Of all days, that is Whit Monday! But what has to be done, has to be done. After multiple back-and-forth communications, refining the press list, finalizing the press release, and determining the right timings, we sent out the press release right at four o’clock.
The Results
Saving the best for last: the actual publications. The news, with intersections in financial news on one hand and sports news on the other, hit all the right notes. It was published in major media outlets, such as Quote, RTL, De Telegraaf, NU.nl, and AD. In the sports realm, the news reached all major media, with publications in Voetbal International, Voetbalzone, Sportnieuws, and Voetbalnieuws. Local media, such as De Gelderlander, RTV Arnhem, and Omroep Gelderland also picked up the story. Even Arjen Lubach couldn’t resist commenting on it in his talk show.
Collectively, this reached hundreds of thousands of people, with an estimated PR value of several tens of thousands of euros. A great success for Woolsocks - The money app, Frank Energie, and of course Vitesse. But secretly also a bit for Presscloud, where we are incredibly proud of this successful campaign. On to more!
