The company

Boombrush is a Dutch toothbrush start-up. They founded the company in 2019, when they noticed that brush heads were not being replaced on time and that oral care produced a lot of plastic waste. Something had to change!

Since then, they have been offering an alternative to the traditional market with innovative, stylish, and environmentally friendly electric toothbrushes. Their mission? “We are here to make you feel fresh, confident and positive, for good.” With that mission, they have since been B-Corp certified. They are also users of Presscloud, and their latest activity is worth highlighting.

The news

Boombrush stands for fair competition, transparency, and sustainable innovation. They challenge the market to become better, more accessible, and more conscious. However, not everyone appreciated this challenge. Boombrush has to compete against electronics giant Philips. The multinational accuses Boombrush of design rights infringement, but according to the Rotterdam-based company, this is a strategy to hinder innovative competitors. A modern David vs Goliath, indeed.

Boombrush announced this through a press release from Presscloud. A lot more information came out of this, such as that this is not the first time Philips has legally targeted a small competitor. Previously, HappyBrush and Silk’n were also targeted, with Philips often winning by default or settling – simply because the opposing party could not afford the legal costs. “As a small player, we encounter a wall of lawyers and procedures,” says Koopmans. “Philips prefers to brush away the competition rather than innovate.”

The support from Presscloud

Sending out this press release was Boombrush's first activity on Presscloud. Understandably, they also had some questions about using the platform. That's great: the first time, we are happy to help - the next time, they can probably do it all by themselves (and otherwise, we will gladly help again with equal love). They figured everything out regarding the press release themselves; we could only assist with the reach concerning journalists. To give an extra push, we gave them an additional voucher and... off it went!

The results

As mentioned, this was Boombrush's first press release on Presscloud, but their news was immediately picked up by het Financieele Dagblad, de Telegraaf, RetailTrends, MT/Sprout, and Duurzaam Ondernemen. Not bad for a first press release! It just goes to show that anyone - David or Goliath - can start with PR and get published immediately. That is the power of Presscloud. Curious?
