Presscloud vs Prowly Dutch focus or global scale through Semrush?

If you compare Prowly today, you are really comparing with the Semrush AI PR Toolkit: Prowly states on its homepage that it has become part of Semrush and that new sign-ups run there. That does not make their global database any less interesting, of course. Presscloud is primarily focused on the Netherlands and Belgium, even though our database now reaches into the UK & US.

First, this

Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit

Prowly started as a Polish PR platform and has been part of Semrush since 2022. New users sign up through Semrush; existing users are pointed by Prowly to its own channels. For you as a buyer this mainly means: compare with the current Semrush offering (and the matching USD pricing), not with old Prowly price lists you still run into on review sites. A product transition can also mean that workflows, limits and terms change over the coming period, something to weigh if you are looking for a long-term solution.

In short

Which one fits when?

Presscloud probably fits better when…

  • your PR targets the Netherlands and Belgium and you value relevance over volume;
  • you want a Dutch-language platform with euro billing and NL support;
  • you also want to be able to expand internationally (US, UK, France) from the same platform;
  • you want continuity and would rather not step into the middle of someone else's product transition.

Prowly / Semrush probably fits better when…

  • you reach out to media in many countries at once and want one very large global database;
  • visibility in AI answers (LLMs) is an explicit KPI; the AI-cited media database is forward-looking here;
  • your team already works in the Semrush ecosystem and wants to connect PR to SEO/marketing.
The most important decision point: where does your audience publish? For Dutch visibility, what counts is not how many contacts a database holds worldwide, but how many relevant Dutch journalists you reach with it, and in which language and currency you want to work.

  • The 1M+ database figure comes from the product information supplied by Semrush; the share of Dutch journalists within it is not specified. So the numbers are not directly comparable with Presscloud's NL/BE count.
  • We deliberately do not convert USD into euros: exchange rates fluctuate and Semrush may apply regional pricing. Check the current price in your own currency with Semrush.
  • "Not found" means: not found in the public product information on the check date.

The differences explained

Four themes that make the difference

Relevance vs. volume

  • A database of a million contacts is impressive for international campaigns.
  • But for a company with a Dutch scope, what counts is: how many relevant NL editors are in it, and how current are those profiles?
  • Semrush does not make the NL share public.
  • Presscloud's 15,000 NL/BE profiles are all within reach; you can have the most relevant journalists matched to your release automatically, or pick the best journalists yourself.

AI: two mature approaches

  • This is not "AI vs. no AI", both platforms are AI-driven.
  • Prowly/Semrush stands out with its AI-cited media database: which outlets feed LLM answers, and how do you get in there?
  • Presscloud aims its AI tools at the DIY process: you can generate a press release, match journalists and have a personal pitch written for each journalist. Of course, everything can also be done manually, or with help from the Presscloud team.

The transition as a factor

  • Product transitions bring opportunities (more development power, Semrush data) but also uncertainty.
  • Workflows, prices and limits can change; old Prowly reviews describe a product that is no longer sold in that form. So anyone signing up now is best off reading the current Semrush terms.
  • Presscloud is "more boring" here, which can actually be an advantage: despite the many technical developments, it is a familiar product and offers transparent pricing.

Cost and currency

  • $149 versus €129 per month looks close at first glance.
  • Do note: different specifications apply to the Presscloud and Prowly plans. You can find the most current specifications on both websites.
  • Presscloud also offers a one-off option (€349 per press release) for those who do not want a subscription. That was not found with Prowly.
