When can you still trust digital media? Now that AI makes it easier to manipulate images, audio, and video, it's no longer a question solely concerning the media sector.
For Media Campus NL, there was enough reason to actively highlight the topic with two campaigns via Presscloud. It resulted in a beautiful use case.
The company
Media Campus NL is located at the Media Park in Hilversum and calls itself the accelerator of innovation for the Dutch media sector. As a public-private partnership, the organization brings together media companies, creators, educational institutions, technology companies, and governments, revolving around AI, MediaTech, and Trusted Media, among other themes. The latter theme is highly topical: how sure can we be about the origin of digital content?
The news
Last month, Media Campus NL announced that VPRO is the first Dutch organization to actually implement C2PA, the standard for recording the origin of digital content, in its editorial workflow. Together with Dawn Technology and VPRO, Media Campus NL developed Verifieermij.nl, an open-source tool that allows you to check the origin and any changes of a file.
A week later, the second campaign followed. Initiated by Media Campus NL, NPO, DPG Media, Mediahuis, and Talpa came together with joint guidelines for transparency around AI content. These provide creators with practical guidance on AI labeling, among other things, and are partly inspired by the European AI Act.
Two quite specialist topics, but with a major common theme: trust.
Guidance from Presscloud
Prior to the campaigns, Media Campus NL received a personal one-on-one demo, after which they could start independently. During the second campaign, one practical question arose: how do you add a PDF with the new guidelines to a press release? Our answer was quickly given: documents can be uploaded via the campaign images, making the PDF neatly available with the press release.
A small moment, but exactly how we prefer to provide guidance: allowing users to do as much as possible themselves, and stepping in as soon as necessary.
The result
The campaigns were picked up by, among others, Emerce, Broadcast Magazine, FONK Magazine, Spreekbuis.nl, NPO, Reformatorisch Dagblad, and Innovation Origins. A remarkably varied list for news that initially seemed intended mainly for insiders.
For Media Campus NL, this meant relevant attention for two topics on which the organization wants to play a pioneering role. And for us, it is proof that even specialist news finds its way to various media, provided it is translated well and distributed in a targeted manner. This is exactly what Presscloud is designed for: from press release to press list, and from distribution to seeing your publications featured.
