For years, we've been tracking where the news in the Netherlands and Belgium actually appears. From now on, you can query this index yourself: the Presscloud News API is live.
What is the News API?
In layman's terms: it's like a mailman that delivers Dutch and Belgian news articles to you all day long, neatly sorted, so you can use them in your own tool or dashboard.
Most international news APIs stop at a few hundred major titles per country. Our index goes further: over 7,300 sources, including 6,400+ Dutch and 800+ Belgian media, from national dailies to regional papers, specialist media, and niche sites. Every article published is returned within minutes to a maximum of twelve hours after publication as clean, structured data: title, summary, publication date, medium, and where available, the author's name. You choose whether you receive this data as JSON or as an RSS feed.
No coincidence
This didn't just come out of nowhere. To know where our users' press releases land, we already track what appears in Dutch and Belgian media through our Media Monitoring (part of the regular subscriptions). So that index already existed, and it grows every week. The News API is that same index, now also accessible for those who want to build with it themselves. It's a bit of a one-two punch, so to speak.
But who wants to build with it? Well, think of PR and media monitoring tools that want to look beyond the national press, teams that want to track funding rounds, product launches, and board changes in the Benelux, researchers who analyze Dutch and Belgian news data, newsletters and aggregators that want to feed a sector-specific feed without crawling hundreds of sources themselves, and compliance teams that want to do screening that goes beyond just the major dailies.
How do you get access?
After signing up, you'll receive a number of free credits, allowing you to calmly test whether the API matches what you're looking for. If this develops into regular use, the number of calls you make determines which package fits best.
