Sometimes an idea starts small but suddenly grows into something that sets the entire sector in motion. This was the case for our director's LinkedIn post where he invited PR agencies to participate in a map of Amsterdam (perhaps you saw it passing by). A month ago, he aimed to highlight the somewhat underexposed PR world in Amsterdam through this initiative. An apparently simple call that went viral in the PR industry. A look back!

Wave of responses

The call quickly generated 193 responses – not only from enthusiastic freelancers but also from Managing Directors of some of the country's largest PR agencies. While some immediately suggested their own agencies, others recommended competitors, partners, or former colleagues. The diversity of responses showed how wide-ranging the PR world in Amsterdam is: from specialized niche agencies to large full-service players. And that was exactly the goal!

At the time of writing, the counter stands at 41,241 views, 25,514 reached members, and 170 likes. The post was also reposted 6 times, including by PR agencies nxt agency and PRLab, the PR & Communication specialist of the PR agency Crisp, and the co-founder of PamPam – the platform where the map was created. This shared visibility ensured that the post spread far beyond its original network and reached new audiences. Incidentally, also outside Amsterdam, which led to mixed reactions. We understand that the Dutch PR industry extends far beyond just Amsterdam, and some companies felt excluded. However, since this was an individual's effort, you can't expect the entire PR Netherlands to be mapped out at once. You have to start somewhere!

An underreported world

Nonetheless, the general tendency was extremely positive. The success of the post highlights something important: there is clearly a need to map this – sometimes somewhat underreported – world. Although PR plays a crucial role in shaping stories and reputations, the industry itself often remains in the background. By literally placing the locations of agencies on a map, the rich and diverse PR landscape of Amsterdam was made visible at a glance.

The final map, viewable via PamPam, shows dozens of agencies spread across the city. From creative hubs in Noord to established names along the canals: the city breathes PR.

What now?

The responses and suggestions that came in have led to new ideas for expansions. Think of maps of other cities, thematic overviews, or perhaps even an interactive map for the whole of the Netherlands. The PR world may often work behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean it has to remain invisible. This is just the beginning.
